The interior had considerable damage from the fire but most mostly localized to the dash area. The rest of the interior was covered with residue from whatever type of extinguisher that was used. | |
| I completely gutted the dash, cleaned the metal of the firewall and lower cowl, primered with Rustoleum, and then began reassembly. It got a new firewall pad, good main wiring harness, rebuilt heater box and good defrost vents and ductwork. | ||
| The previous owner had installed new door panels, but did not do anything with the door itself (as seen on the left). In addition to cleaning the door panel, I removed the door panel, cleaned, sanded, and painted the interior of the door, and reinstalled the door panel with new watershields. I also installed new window cranks and door lock knobs. | ||

The headliner was torn, so I replaced that. In additon, the windshield and rear window weatherstrip was old and cracked and leaking. I removed the windshield and rear window, reinstalled the new headliner the correct way (with the glass removed), and then reinstalled the glass with new weatherstripping. The front upholstery had been changed, but not the rear. I installed new upholstery on the rear seat, put in a new package tray, and cleaned and painted the side quarter panels. On the dash, I installed a new dash panel, new dash trim and the rebuilt instrument cluster (see instrument cluster specifics on the link to the left). After resealing all the seams in the floor, I installed new carpet underlayment (basically a sound deadener), and then installed new carpet. The front seats were thoroughly cleaned and no apparent damage was found to the otherwise new upholstery on the front seats. Original seat belts were reinstalled as well as new kick panels and new door sill plates. |
